Sneak Preview: Sergio Lopez' 'Sacred Spring', Opening April 14th

Modern Eden is pleased to announce "Sacred Spring", featuring new paintings by Bay Area artist Sergio Lopez. This will be Lopez’ 2nd solo exhibition at Modern Eden after last year’s critically acclaimed exhibition, “Painted Roses”. This exhibit will feature new works in which the artist combines his masterful technique with themes of the Sacred Spring and natural patterns.
“Sacred Spring” is inspired by the Jugendstil patterns of the Vienna Secessionists such as Gustav Klimt and others. Sacred Spring is the English translation of Ver Sacrum, an ancient Roman rite of passage. The Vienna Secessionists were concerned mostly with creating a new style outside of the academic tradition yet in continuation with the high standard of the art preceding it. This series is a tribute to the beauty of their work as well as the sentiment of their goals.

Sergio Lopez uses Natural Patterns as an examination of the human spirit within the wild landscape. It shows a rhythm between the essence of life in the blood and how it carries through into nature. Focusing on the life force that everyone exudes, Natural Patterns highlights the relationship between Lopez’ subject and the natural world which surrounds human life every day. It is a visual representation of what is meant to be seen in people’s blood; Their breath, their life.

Sergio Lopez, born in 1983, is a graduate of the Academy of Art in San Francisco. His artistic knowledge ballooned when he discovered his love of oil painting and charcoal drawing. The Golden Age illustrators, Bravura painters, contemporary artists, concept designers, graffiti writers, and photographers have been some of his strongest influences in his pursuit of painting. He continues to study by visiting museums and observing the Great Masters, which he strives to learn lessons of beauty from.

Since he began participating in plein air events in 2010, Lopez has won multiple awards, including Epperson Gallery’s Valona Paint Out best of show award two years in a row, 3 awards in the 2010 Paint San Clemente Festival and Honorable Mention in the Alameda Plein Air event two years in a row. He uses the knowledge gained from painting outdoors in his studio paintings.

The opening reception for "Sacred Spring" will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, April 14th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through May 6, 2012 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary drinks will be served and there will be live music by San Francisco’s FLAVIUS (DJ) during the reception. Exhibiting artist, Sergio Lopez will be in attendance.
