Via Hi-Fructose:  “Though scientific discoveries and technology shape our perception and beliefs, Western society’s classical foundations have survived well into the Internet era. Archetypes from Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian mythology influence the kinds of stories we tell about ourselves and each other — both in interpersonal interactions and in the media. On July 14, Modern Eden in San Francisco will open “Myth,” an international group show at allows a diverse line-up of artists to interpret the myths of their choice. From Persephone to King Midas, both obscure and familiar mythological characters will be stylized according to each artist’s imagination.” Written by Nastia Voynovskaya

UPCOMING: SheWolf- Chelsea Brown Solo Exhibition

Opening Reception: Saturday July 14, 2012, 6-10 pm
Exhibition Dates: July 14 - August 5, 2012
Gallery Hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 11a - 7pm

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “SheWolf”, a debut solo exhibition by San Francisco artist Chelsea Brown. She-Wolf is a collection of new works that showcases the sword wielders, horde leaders and vengeful female warriors of fact and fiction. Chelsea’s illustrative portraits explore historical warrior culture and shines light on the zealous defiance and untamable fire that describes the Lady Hellraisers just as much as their male counterparts. The dramatic new works tell the stories of the epic violent exploits of unsung women with legendary combative skill, and re-imagine the feats of fictional fighters.
Chelsea Brown’s illustrative works are inspired by both historical and fictitious acts of bravery, nerve and recklessness. Addicted to research, she has a pointed interest in ancient cultures and in the seemingly more passionate lives of past societies. She moved to San Francisco after earning a degree in Costume Design from UC Santa Barbara to follow her passion of drawing and painting.

The opening reception for "SheWolf" will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, July 14th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through August 5, 2012 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary drinks will be served and there will be a live DJ set during the reception. Featured solo artist, Chelsea Brown will be in attendance.

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “Notorious”, a group exhibition featuring portraits of History’s most infamous figures.   Participating artists have chosen subjects from among the most notorious historical persons and each artist has created work for the show that speaks with their unique artistic style. Among the likes of Sid Vicious and William Burroughs stare the faces of Caligula and Marie Antoinette.  From the beguiling grace of Isadora Duncan to the delicious insanity of Hunter S. Thompson, no subject is sacred.  These are the portraits that speak for the historical tyrants, literary scoundrels, artistic rebels, infamous criminals, sexual deviants, famous fools and madmen.

What is “Notorious” is relative to time, historical documentation, legend and cultural interpretation.  A person considered notorious in their time might be viewed differently today, whereby modern standards change, the nature of what is morally “bad” changes.  This exhibition is partly a testament to the misunderstood, the cultural pioneers, and partly a condemnation of the truly and memorably evil.  It is an artistic survey of the shifting nature of what is considered ‘Notorious’ and a testament to the various ways of rising and falling to fame.
