Lost & Found: In the Dark! April 1, 2011
Modern Eden is pleased to announce "Lost & Found: In the Dark!", an exhibition featuring illuminated sculptures by Mark Friday. The exhibition will be held at Modern Eden on Friday, April 1st from 7-9pm and is free and open to the public.
To fully appreciate Mark Friday's illuminated sculptures and art pieces, we are turning off the lights! Mark’s assemblages have fanciful, fun, and enigmatic qualities. The work suggests weathered rural structures, odd scientific inventions, and vague religious icons. His scupltural pieces radiate warm lights of vibrant colors, interesting textures and patterns, creating a unique dream-like environment with pieces that project beyond their boundaries.
“Lost and Found” presents the work of Denver-based artists, Deborah Jang and Mark Friday. Each uses found objects -- primarily of metal and wood -- in their respective sculpture and assemblage pieces. These re-purposed components sometimes evoke familiar or cultural reference points, or may suggest less obvious and more obscured origins. For the artists, the process of creating something fresh and new from the discards of society is challenging and enticing. They share an appreciation of well-worn surfaces and the “incidental art” that naturally occurs all around us. Deborah and Mark have collaborated on 3 of the sculptures in this show, adding another layer of improvisation as they passed a piece back and forth, playing off each others artistry.
April 1st is also First Friday in North Beach. Over a dozen local art spaces and galleries open extended hours on the First Friday of every month in our historic art district. Grab a map and peruse the wonderful art world with art receptions, live music, drinks, poetry, and entertainment throughout the neighborhood.
When: Friday, April 1, 2011 6-9 PM
Show runs through April 09, 2011 (with the lights on)
Where: Modern Eden Gallery
403 Francisco Street
