Lost & Found: Opening Reception March 12th, 2011 7-10 pm

Modern Eden is pleased to announce "Lost & Found", an exhibition featuring new works from Deborah Jang and Mark Friday. The opening reception for "Lost & Found" will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, March 12th from 7-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through April 09, 2011 and is free and open to the public.

“Lost and Found” presents the work of Denver-based artists, Deborah Jang and Mark Friday. Each uses found objects -- primarily of metal and wood -- in their respective sculpture and assemblage pieces. These re-purposed components sometimes evoke familiar or cultural reference points, or may suggest less obvious and more obscured origins. For the artists, the process of creating something fresh and new from the discards of society is challenging and enticing. They share an appreciation of well-worn surfaces and the “incidental art” that naturally occurs all around us. Deborah and Mark have collaborated on 3 of the sculptures in this show, adding another layer of improvisation as they passed a piece back and forth, playing off each others artistry.

Mark’s assemblages have fanciful, fun, and enigmatic qualities. The work suggests weathered rural structures, odd scientific inventions, and vague religious icons. Often the works are fitted with light sources that enhance their inner nature as well as project beyond their boundaries.

Deborah’s California roots, most recently as a resident of Galilee Harbor in Sausalito, draw her happily back to the Bay Area for “Lost & Found.” Her work is often characterized by the recurring fish form, and this exhibit is no exception, as she experiments with qualities of “suspension” and a sense of floating in space.
