Sneak Peek: Talisman, Cory Benhatzel Solo Exhibition, Opening August 11th

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “Talisman”, a debut solo exhibition by New York based artist Cory Benhatzel.   Talisman combines the occult, floriography symbolism, and Benhatzel’s own mystical world of animal characters. A talisman is an amulet or other object considered to possess supernatural or magical powers. It is also  a sentimental object or souvenir that when looked at years later, evokes emotion. These illustrative paintings are all about the secretive unseen; the hidden mystical. Every animal lives a secret life, every flower has a hidden meaning, and each talismanic symbol wields magic.

Cory Benhatzel was born and raised in the town of Amherst, New York. At eighteen she moved to Los Angeles where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from Otis College of Art & Design. Cory has since returned to New York  where she currently resides with her husband and daughter-cat, Moogle. Cory Benhatzel’s paintings are inspired by the occult, natural history and Norse Paganism. The painstakingly created acrylic works deal with themes of the doppelganger, divination, victory, protection, the dance between life and death, triumph, and love.

The opening reception for "Talisman" will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, August 11th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through September 9, 2012 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary drinks will be served by Rolling Rock and Three Wishes Winery and there will be a live DJ set by DJ BJ  during the reception. Featured solo artist, Cory Benhatzel will be in attendance.
